On July 9th, 2023, a major rainstorm caused the creek residing by Antietam Middle-Senior High School to overflow. Water quickly rushed its way into the building, shattering doors, bending metal, and covering certain areas of the school in up to six feet of water.
When the flooding subsided, it at once became clear that the school was damaged beyond repair. Floors were caked in mud and debris. All electric and heating were destroyed. Teachers were given only a matter of minutes to salvage what supplies they could, but most was lost to the water.
In the current school year, students and staff now share space with the Elementary and Primary Center students, as well as a local church. With no real plans in place, the future seems bleak for residents of this school district.
